    Mayor Finances 25,299 Affordable Homes for the Fiscal Year 2019

    City pushes forward on its goal to create 300,000 affordable homes and produces a record number of affordable units for homeless, seniors, and those in need of supportive services. On July 30, 2019, the Office of the Mayor announced that the City has financed 25,299 affordable homes for 2019. The Mayor plans to finance 300,000 affordable homes through the Housing New York plan by 2026. (read more…)

    Mayor de Blasio Announces Citi Bike Expansion Throughout All Boroughs

    The Citi Bike expansion will double the current service area by 35 square miles and triple the number of bikes to 40,000. On July 16, 2019, the de Blasio Administration announced Citi Bike’s expansion. Last November, Lyft entered into an agreement with the City to invest $100 million in Citi Bike, which will double the size of Citi Bike’s service area and triple the number of bikes in the program. The expansion will take place from 2019 to 2023 and will bring Citi Bike to all of Manhattan, the Bronx, and deeper into Brooklyn and Queens. (read more…)

    Mayor de Blasio Opposes New Federal Housing Rules Based on Immigration Status

    The federal government proposed a rule that would bar mixed-immigration status families from accessing rental subsidies. On July 9, 2019, the de Blasio Administration announced that it submitted formal comments to the federal government in opposition to a proposed rule that would result in eviction of thousands of New Yorkers from federally-assisted housing based on the tenants’ immigration status.     Mayor Taps Three New NYCHA Directors, Including a Current Public Housing Resident

    The three new appointees bring diverse experience and backgrounds to the board. On June 26, 2019, Mayor de Blasio’s office the appointment of three new members to NYCHA’s seven-member board of directors. The three appointees, Joseph K. Adams Sr., Paula Gavin, and Matt Gewolb, have traveled very different paths to the directorships. (read more…)

    Rockaway Beach Restored for Memorial Day Weekend

    The stretch of beach was closed last summer due to heavy erosion. On May 14, 2019, Mayor Bill de Blasio along with U.S. Senator Charles Schumer, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced the completion of the East Rockaway Inlet maintenance dredging project. The completion of the project will allow for the reopening of the stretch of beach from Beach 92nd Street to Beach 105th Street.  The portion of beach was closed last summer due to erosion and lack of sand.
