    HPD Selects Development Partners for Affordable Senior Housing in Astoria

    The development is next to a subway station and local retail and grocery stores. On January 13, 2021, the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development announced the development team for an affordable senior housing development at 31-07 31st Street in Astoria, Queens. The development will be mixed-use, with 100 percent affordable housing for seniors, a community center and commercial space. The site is currently a city-owned parking lot for the Department of Transportation.  (more…)

    HPD Opens City’s First LGBT-Friendly Affordable Senior Housing

    The project is a part of NYCHA’s efforts to build 10,000 units of affordable housing over the next decade. On December 17, 2019, the Department of Housing, Preservation and Development (HPD) announced the opening of Stonewall House, a new LGBT-friendly affordable elder housing at 112 St. Edwards Street in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The project is the first elder housing in both the City and State to be designed as “LGBT-friendly.” (more…)

    Affordable and Environmentally Friendly Senior Housing Project Opens in Queens

    The development provides housing and supportive services to formerly homeless seniors. On May 29, 2019, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development announced the grand opening of HANAC’s $36 million Corona Senior Residence at 54-17 101St Street in Corona, Queens. The newly constructed eight-story housing project is environmentally friendly and comes with 67 affordable studio and one-bedroom residences, 21 of which are for formerly homeless seniors. The building features an early childhood education center on the ground floor administered by the New York City School Construction Authority. The “Passive House” building was designed by Think! Architecture and Design in consultation with the Association for Energy Affordability. (more…)

    City and State Officials Celebrate Groundbreaking of New Mixed-Use Affordable Development in Brownsville

    On May 17, 2022, City and State officials joined the development team of non-profit The Bridge, Greenpoint Manufacturing and Design Center, and Mega Development for the ground breaking of Bridge Rockaway, a new mixed-use affordable housing development in Brownsville, Brooklyn.  (more…)

    HPD Releases Initial Results of 2021 Housing and Vacancy Survey

    On May 17, 2022, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) released some initial results of the 2021 New York City Housing and Vacancy Survey. The survey is the official source of the city’s net rental vacancy rate, which is used to determine the continued need for rent stabilization. From its start in 1965, the survey is the longest running housing survey in the United States.  (more…)
