    HPD to Redevelop Vacant Buildings for Homeless Families

    HPD issues the Property Pathways RFEI seeking vacant, or partially vacant multifamily buildings that can be redeveloped into permanent housing for vulnerable New Yorkers. On December 19, 2019, Housing Preservation and Development announced its release of Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) for its new Property Pathways initiative. The Property Pathways initiative identifies privately-owned properties throughout the city with at least ten units that can be converted into safe and secure permanent housing to be immediately occupied by formerly homeless and other vulnerable households.     HPD Opens City’s First LGBT-Friendly Affordable Senior Housing

    The project is a part of NYCHA’s efforts to build 10,000 units of affordable housing over the next decade. On December 17, 2019, the Department of Housing, Preservation and Development (HPD) announced the opening of Stonewall House, a new LGBT-friendly affordable elder housing at 112 St. Edwards Street in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The project is the first elder housing in both the City and State to be designed as “LGBT-friendly.” (read more…)

    HPD, Elected Officials, Project Partners Break Ground on New Supportive Senior Housing in Mott Haven

    The project will bring 152 units of affordable and supportive housing to the South Bronx. On September 10, 2019, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, the New York City Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), and the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance/Homeless Housing and Assistance Corporation (OTDA/HHAC), elected officials and project partners broke ground on “Betances Residence,” a new senior housing project. The project is located at 443 East 142nd Street between Willis and Brook Avenues in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx. (read more…)

    HPD Opens Proposals for Two East Harlem Sites

    The RFP was developed using community input through the East Harlem Neighborhood Planning Process and visioning workshops. On August 8, 2019, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) Commissioner, Louise Carroll, announced the release of a competitive Request for Proposals (RFP) regarding the redevelopment of the East Harlem Multi-Service Center site at 413 East 120th Street in Manhattan and the NYPD’s 25th Precinct parking lot on the east side of Park Avenue between East 118th and East 119th Streets in Manhattan. The redevelopment will include affordable housing, retail, and community services. (read more…)

    HPD Announces Construction of First Phase of 740-Unit Affordable Mixed-Use Development in South Bronx

    Phase One of the development will yield 183 units of deeply affordable housing ranging from studios to three-bedrooms. On July 16, 2019, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD),the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and private developers announced plans to construct the first phase of the Peninsula, a 100 percent affordable mixed-use development in the Hunts Point neighborhood of the Bronx. The project will be constructed on the site of the former Spofford Juvenile Detention Center. (read more…)
