DDC Announces Completion of Restoration of Staten Island Supreme Court Building Front Steps

On July 18, 2023, the Department of Design and Construction announced the completion of a $5.2 million restoration of the front steps of the Staten Island Supreme Court building. The courthouse, located at 18 Richmond Terrance in St. George, is a historic landmark. The courthouse was designated in March 1982. The French Renaissance-style temple-fronted building was designed in 1913 by Carrere & Hastings. 


DDC Begins Restoration on Landmarked Staten Island Supreme Court Building

On March 30, 2022, the Department of Design and Construction (DDC) announced the start of a restoration project for the Staten Island Supreme Court Building, located at 18 Richmond Terrace in St. George, Staten Island. The courthouse, a French Renaissance style temple-fronted limestone building, was built in 1913 and designated a New York City landmark in 1982. 


Century-Old West Tremont Avenue Step Street Restoration Complete

The Step Street renovation took approximately two years to complete. On April 7, 2020, the Department of Design and Construction and the Department of Transportation announced that the restoration of West Tremont Avenue Step Street, connecting Cedar Avenue to Sedgwick Avenue, has been completed. The project was funded by Transportation and managed by Design and Construction. The restoration of the century-old stairs cost $7 million.


DDC Announces $15.5M in Restoration of Montefiore Square in West Harlem

The project will provide space for community events and green markets. On October 23, 2019, the New York City Department of Design and Construction announced a joint effort to restore and expand Montefiore Square into what is now Hamilton Place between Broadway and West 138th Street in West Harlem, Manhattan.


DDC Announces Yvi McEvilly as Head of Agency’s Design-Build Unit

On December 7, 2023, the Department of Design and Construction announced the appointment of Yvi McEvilly as the new Assistant Commissioner for the agency’s Design-Build Unit. City Agencies Announce Water Supply Improvements and Traffic Redesigns Along Ninth Avenue in Midtown

On March 21, 2023, elected officials and agency officials from the Department of Design and Construction, Transportation, and Environmental Protection announced the completion of a $231 million upgrade in the water distribution system and road reconstruction along Ninth Avenue, one of Midtown’s major corridors. The investment also included safety improvements and street redesign enhancements to reclaim more space for pedestrians and decrease congestion.
