    Council Passes Bill to Include High School Students in Ferry Discount Program

    On March 16, 2023, the NYC Council approved Council Member Amanda Farías’s bill, Int. 0236-2022, that will reduce NYC Ferry’s fares for NYC high school students by including them in the NYC Ferry Discount Program. (more…)

    Council Bill Requires Mental Health Services Availability for Families in Shelters

    On March 14, 2023, Mayor Eric Adams signs Local Law 35 of 2023. The new law was originally introduced as Int. No. 522 on June 16, 2022, by Council Member Erik Bottcher. This law requires mental health professionals to be available in each Department of Homeless Services shelter that serves families with children. The bill would require a ratio of one full-time mental health professional for every 50 families. (more…)

    Proposed Council Bill Provides Navigator Services for Families with Children Entering Intake Centers

    On February 2, 2023, Council Member Diana Ayala introduced Int. 902 (2023) at the NYC Council. The bill would require the Department of Homeless Services to provide process navigator services to every family with children seeking temporary shelter at an intake center. (more…)

    Council Passes Bill to Amend Property Tax Interest Rates to Help Eligible Homeowners

    On March 14, 2023, Mayor Eric Adams signed Local Law 36 of 2023. The new law was originally introduced as Int. No. 524 on June 6, 2022, by Council Member David M. Carr. Local Law 36 aims to ensure that eligible homeowners with a total income of $250,000 or less receive relief on property tax debts by authorizing the New York City Banking Commission to recommend an interest rate applicable to such debts.
