    City Council Holds Hearing to Address Deed Fraud Crisis

    Proposed legislation would include requirements to provide information about how to respond to suspected deed fraud. On October 13, 2020, the City Council Committee of Housing and Buildings and the Committee on Finance held an oversight hearing examining the City’s deed theft and deed fraud crisis, and discussed two bills and a resolution aimed at combatting deed theft: Int 1913, Int 1919, and Res 1427.     Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito Pledges NYCHA Capital Assistance in State of the City

    The Council Speaker announced $250 million for NYCHA and called on Albany to match the funds.  On February 11, 2015 City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito delivered her first State of the City address at the Johnson Community Center in East Harlem.  As part of the address’ overall theme to “lift every voice”, the Speaker announced a plan to commit $225 million in capital funding for the New York City Housing Authority to improve conditions in public housing buildings.
