City Planning failed to prepare a waste prevention and recycling plan and failed to submit annual reports to Sanitation. On September 24, 2014, New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer released an audit finding that the New York City Department of City Planning did not comply with Local Law 36. The program expands on a Queens pilot program that diverted 12.7 million pounds of compostable material from landfills. On February 1, 2023, Mayor Eric Adams and Department of Sanitation Commissioner Jessica Tisch* revealed a new roadmap for the creation and implementation of a citywide composting program. The announcement comes with a $11 million investment in restoring full alternative side parking and cleaning of protected bike lanes. On April 18, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams announced the appointment of Jessica Tisch as the new Commissioner of the Department of Sanitation. (more…)

On March 15, 2022, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), New York City Housing Development Corporation (HDC), and members of the development team cut the ribbon for the first building of the Linden Terrace project. The Linden Terrace project will bring 548 new affordable homes spread across three buildings. The celebration marked the opening and first lease up of 2858 Linden Boulevard, the first building, and the groundbreaking of the second and third buildings in the project. The development team consists of Radson Development, Real Builders, and Spring Management. (more…)

Today, October 29, 2021, Department of Transportation Commissioner Hank Gutman spoke at the 174th CityLaw Breakfast. Commissioner Gutman spoke on “Reimagining How Freight Moves in New York City.” Professor Ross Sandler, Director of the Center for New York City Law provided opening remarks. This Breakfast was sponsored by ConEdison, Greenberg Traurig, and Verizon. This was the eighth virtual CityLaw Breakfast as in-person events are not feasible at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. (more…)
