    City Revamps Composting Efforts Starting in Queens

    Last month, Mayor Adams announced a new plan to bring automatic, weekly curbside organic waste collection to the entire borough of Queens. Residents can order free compost bins from the New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY), and bins will automatically be sent to buildings with 10 or more residential units. (more…)

    Mayor Announces Community Outreach for Brooklyn-Queens Expressway Improvement

    The city is launching two parallel public engagement campaigns, BQE Central and BQE North and South. On September 16, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams and Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez announced a public engagement campaign that will inform the administration’s efforts to improve the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE). With federal funding newly available through the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Mayor Adams intends to finance much-needed repairs to the BQE. (more…)

    “Tommie L. Agee” Educational Campus Opens in Queens

    Members of the 1969 “Amazin” Mets and the late outfielder’s family joined city officials at the opening of I.S. 419. On August 26, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams, the Department of Education (DOE), and School Construction Authority (SCA) celebrated the opening of the Tommie L. Agee Educational Campus, I.S. 419. Located at 111-12 Astoria Blvd in East Elmhurst, Queens, I.S. 419 will serve 646 students from grades 6-8 and help alleviate crowding in the area for the 2022-23 school year. (more…)

    Construction Milestone Reached for New 116th Precinct in Southeast Queens

    After decades of advocating, the communities of Rosedale, Brookville, Laurelton, and Springfield Gardens in Queens celebrated the topping off on their newly-established police precinct. On August 22, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams joined the NYPD, NYC Department of Design and Construction, and local elected officials to celebrate the installation of the last steel beam, known as the topping off ceremony, for the new 116th Precinct in southeast Queens.     Ground Broken on $5 Million Renovation of Beach 59th Street Playground in Queens

    The Arverne, Queens community is receiving a renovated playground so they can use it for years to come. On August 12, 2022, NYC Parks Queens Borough Commissioner Mike Dockett, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, Assembly Member Khaleel M. Anderson, Assembly Member Stacey Pheffer Amato, City Council Member Selvena Brooks-Powers, representatives from Queens Community Board 14, and community members gathered for an official groundbreaking ceremony to mark the commencement on the $5 million renovation of Beach 59th Street Playground in Arverne section of Queens.
