    City Planning Announces “Walkshop” Walking Tours Along Cross Bronx Expressway

    On August 22, 2023, the Department of City Planning announced a series of “walkshops” along the Cross Bronx Expressway to discuss the city’s ongoing efforts to address negative impacts of the expressway on the health of local residents. The tours will be in collaboration with the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and both the city and state Departments of Transportation. Members of the public will have the opportunity to see existing conditions of the expressway and contribute to finding solutions for better health outcomes for their communities. (more…)

    HPD and Project Partners Celebrate New Supportive and Affordable Housing Complex in Morris Heights

Image Credit: HPD/Services for the Underserved.On May 24, 2023, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development joined project partners Services for the Underserved and Bronx Pro Group LLC to celebrate a housewarming for the newly opened Jerome Court redevelopment. Located at 1769 Jerome Avenue in the Morris Heights section of the Bronx, the space was transformed from a two-story single-use occupancy building to a 16-story mixed use building with supportive and affordable housing.     Elected Officials Celebrate Starhill Construction Start in Morris Heights

    The mixed-use Bronx development will support adults experiencing homelessness through substance abuse treatment programs. On July 27, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul announced the start of construction for Starhill Phase I. This $189 million affordable housing development is located in the Morris Heights section of the Bronx and features ample supportive housing. (more…)

    Mayor’s Office Expands Free Legal Help to Fight Evictions

    The expansion provides free legal assistance for tenants in five additional ZIP codes. On December 13, 2019, the Mayor’s Office announced an expansion of the Right to Counsel program that provides free legal assistance to New Yorkers fighting eviction. The Right to Counsel program, implemented by a ZIP code by ZIP code approach, will be expanded to five more ZIP codes across the City. (more…)

    Small Business Services Awards $3.8 Million in Nonprofit Grants

    Funding from the Avenue NYC and Neighborhood 360 grant programs will be awarded to 24 nonprofits working towards pandemic recovery in low to moderate income neighborhoods. On July 13, 2022, the NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) announced it will award $3.8 million in multi-year grants through the Avenue NYC and Neighborhood 360 programs. This investment will be divided among 24 community-based development organizations working in low-to-moderate income neighborhoods. (more…)
