    DCP Hosts First Info Session for “City of Yes” Text Amendments

    On October 17, 2022, the New York City Department of City Planning (DCP) held an online information session to discuss Mayor Eric Adams’ “City of Yes” initiatives. The “City of Yes” was first announced back in June and focuses on three key areas of reform: Carbon Neutrality, Economic Opportunity, and Housing Opportunity. The amendments highlight the mayor’s desire to move away from “Not in My Backyard,” or “NIMBY” policies that restrict the development of housing, place restrictions on small businesses and where they can operate, and limits to how green technology can be implemented. In his initial announcement, Mayor Adams said, “We are going to turn New York into a ‘City of Yes’ — yes in my backyard, yes on my block, yes in my neighborhood.” (more…)

    City Planning to Hold Information Session on City of Yes Zoning Text Amendments October 17th

    The three amendments aim to remove unnecessary restrictions that limit housing, economic development and sustainability. On October 17, 2022, the Department of City Planning will host an information session regarding the proposed “City of Yes” zoning text amendments. The “City of Yes” amendments, announced in June, aim to resolve obstacles that prevent the creation of more housing, remove certain zoning limitations to encourage economic growth, and support sustainability.     City Planning Commission Votes to Approve “City of Yes for Carbon Neutrality”

    On September 11, 2023, the City Planning Commission voted to approve the City of Yes for Carbon Neutrality zoning text amendment. The amendment is the first of the City’s three proposed City of Yes zoning text amendments to pass the City Planning Commission. The City of Yes amendments aim to remove or change outdated parts of the zoning text that hinder the development of housing, economic growth, or the implementation of green technology and infrastructure.  (more…)

    City Planning Announces Next Info Session on City of Yes Amendments

    On September 5, 2023, the Department of City Planning announced further information sessions about the City of Yes for Economic Opportunity zoning text amendment. The proposed zoning text amendment is part of Mayor Adams and the Department of City Planning’s City of Yes initiative to remove outdated provisions and revise the zoning text to enable the better growth of the economy, housing, and the use of green technology. The City of Yes for Economic Opportunity amendment contains 18 reforms that support the growth of small businesses, help fill vacant storefronts, help grow the life sciences sector and revitalize commercial corridors.  (more…)

    On July 11, 2023, the Department of City Planning will hold the next information session for the City of Yes for Economic Opportunity zoning text amendment. The text amendment is part of Mayor Eric Adams’ City of Yes proposed amendments aimed to remove outdated or unnecessary provisions within the existing zoning text that inhibit the development of housing, green energy, and economic development.
